Places like New York, Illinois, Ohio and New Jersey continue to be major net losers of people. Conversely, Texas, Florida, North Carolina have continued population gains. Two notable Sunbelt exceptions: California and Nevada. But even California, a state with almost double the population of New York state (about 37 million compared to about 19 million) still had half the level of net migration (65,000 vs New York's almost 120,000).
